Set up
- One keeper in goal. Put 3 cones about 12 yards out: left, middle and right.
- A server stands at each cone. With only 3 kids, use 2 servers.
- Keep spare balls next to the servers so there is no waiting when a shot misses.
- Swap keepers every 2-3 minutes so every kid who wants a turn in goal gets one.
- Space
- Penalty box and a goal
- You need
- 1 goal · 3 cones · 6-8 balls · Keeper gloves
How to play
- The keeper starts in the ready position: feet shoulder-width apart, knees bent, hands up in front, weight on the toes.
- Servers shoot in turn: left, middle, right. Wait until the keeper is set. Start with side-foot shots right at the keeper.
- Low shots: get down behind the ball and scoop it up into your chest.
- Belly-high shots: hug the ball into your chest. Head-high shots: catch with your hands in a W, thumbs almost touching.
- After each save, roll or throw the ball to the next server. In 7v7 the keeper may not punt.
- Between shots, the keeper shuffles over to face the next server.
Coaching points
- Be set before the shot: small shuffle steps, never cross your feet.
- Get your body behind the ball, so if it slips it still hits you.
- Stand a couple of steps off your line, in line with the ball and the middle of the goal.
- Hold on after the save. No rebounds!
Easier
Servers throw the ball or pass it gently, straight at the keeper, from about 8 yards.
Harder
Aim for the corners, shoot first time off a pass, and let the shooter follow in for rebounds.
