Set up

  • Put a start cone about 25 yards from goal. The line waits there, each player with a ball.
  • A wall player (the teammate who passes it right back) stands at a cone off to the side, about 10 yards ahead of the line.
  • A defender stands between the line and the goal, level with the wall. Use a cone or a player who only walks. A keeper is in goal.
  • With more than 6 players, make a second group at another goal.
Space
20 x 25 yards in front of a goal
You need
1 goal · 2 cones · 1 ball per player · Pinnies for the defender and keeper

How to play

  1. 1 dribbles straight at the defender.
  2. A few steps before the defender, 1 passes to the wall and sprints past the defender.
  3. The wall passes first time into the space behind the defender.
  4. 1 runs onto the ball without stopping and shoots.
  5. Rotate: the shooter becomes the wall, and the wall joins the back of the line.
  6. Swap the defender and keeper every few minutes. Move the wall to the other side halfway through.

Coaching points

  • Dribble right at the defender so they have to step toward you.
  • Pass, then go! Sprint as soon as the ball leaves your foot.
  • Wall: pass it first time into the space in front of the runner.
  • Shoot early, low and to a corner. Take a quick look at the keeper first.

Easier

Use a cone as the defender and let the wall stop the ball first, then pass it back.

Harder

Make the defender live and let them chase after the first pass. The shooter must shoot within two touches.
