Set up
- Put a keeper in the goal. Make pairs and let each pair pick a country.
- Give each pair its own pinnie color if you can.
- The coach stands at a cone about 20 yards from goal with a pile of balls. The pairs wait beside the coach.
- Space
- Penalty area plus 10 yards in front of it
- You need
- 1 goal · Lots of balls · Pinnies in different colors · 1 cone for the coach
How to play
- The coach serves a ball toward the box. Every pair plays against all the others.
- Win the ball, work with your partner and score on the keeper. If the ball goes out, the coach serves a new one right away.
- Classic rules: a pair that scores goes through to the next round and waits beside the coach. The last pair without a goal is out.
- Play round after round until one country wins the World Cup. Pairs that are out can play keeper or fetch balls.
- To keep everyone playing, give a point for each goal instead and play several short rounds of about 2 minutes.
- Swap the keeper often so everyone gets to shoot.
Coaching points
- Be first to the ball. Keep your body between the ball and the other player.
- Look for your partner. A quick pass often makes the goal.
- Shoot low and toward the corners.
- Follow every shot in case the keeper drops it.
- Stay on your feet, no pushing, and never kick at a ball the keeper is holding.
Easier
Play with only two or three pairs and serve the ball gently into the middle of the box.
Harder
A goal counts only after a pass between partners, or players get just two touches before they shoot.
